I’ve always had a passion for textiles and home fashions, and I’m so proud that I’ve been able to build a small business helping people create beautiful, custom-made keepsakes through Shirt Of Your Back Quilts.

Growing up in Massachusetts, I started sewing as a girl, and my brothers and sister say I always had a handful of projects in the works. By high school, my seamstress skills were pretty well developed, and I became interested in traditional quilting, winning second prize in the annual New England Quilters Guild junior quilters contest at the age of 16. That was fun, and I was hooked.

That led me to pursue and earn a Fine Arts degree in Textile Design from UMass Dartmouth, after which my husband Dan and I moved to New York where I worked for West Point Pepperell, first as a handweaver weaving mock ups of fabric designs, then as a fabric designer. When we moved to Georgia, I joined Milliken Fabrics, working with furniture manufacturers forecasting color trends, meeting with customers and attending an endless string of trade shows and seminars. If you know of any sofas that haven’t been recovered since the 1980s, there’s a good possibility that one of my fabrics is on it.

I left the corporate world to raise our son and our daughter, but as they got older and I had more time, I started making T-shirt quilts -- first for friends, then neighbors and maybe soon for you. It’s tremendously rewarding work, combining my expertise in fabric design with traditional quilting to create one-of-a-kind pieces -- quilts and now pillowcases, too -- that are both practical and unique. More than a few customers have come back to tell me how much they enjoyed giving a Shirt Off Your Back Quilt to a loved one. It’s a special feeling that I’m so happy to share.
