Each Block Tells a Story: Our INNOVA Community Quilt for Quilts of Val

At INNOVA Longarm Quilting Systems, we believe every stitch tells a story. This year, we asked our INNOVA family to come together in a powerful way to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of America's veterans. Through our INNOVA Community Quilt for Quilts of Valor project, quilters from across the country contributed handmade blocks—each infused with love, gratitude, and personal meaning.

From patriotic stars to intricate patterns of red, white, and blue, every block carries its own inspiration. Many quilters also shared touching stories alongside their work, describing the family members, friends, and loved ones who served our country. These heartfelt messages remind us why quilting is more than craft—it's connection, memory, and tribute.

We are thrilled to share a gallery of these quilt blocks and the moving stories behind them. Together, they represent not just fabric and thread, but a community united in honoring our veterans.

Continuing the Journey

We are so inspired by the incredible blocks our INNOVA family has shared, and this beautiful gallery is just the beginning. Next, we will be joining these blocks together to create our INNOVA Community Quilt, which will be quilted live at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. "My husband served 42 years in the US Army as an Apache Aviator. This block made me think of the rotor blades on his helicopter. The red stars appear where the "rotor wash" would occur when the blades are spinning. The dark blue are the propellers and the bubble fabric is the air rising to lift the helicopter." "A month from now I will be 79 years old and I think these red and blue fabrics are from the late 1970's when I first learned to quilt." Mona Offenbecher - Madison, AL
"My grandpa Floyd and my husband's grandpa Benavides met at our wedding sitting at the same table. Grandpa Benavides was discussing his time in WWII. He was on the USS Zellars DD-777 which supported amphibious assaults. My Grandpa Floyd who was in the Army looked up and said, "I wish you guys were shelling a bit higher. I was on that island." They spent the rest of the night talking like they had been friends forever. Neither Grandpa ever talked about their service time. We do know that Grandpa Benavides ship lost 29 sailors and 37 wounded due to a Kamikaze strike." Katie Benavides - Bulverdee, TX
